Welcome to Michael's British Food page.
A lot of things, good and bad are said about British Food in general but
there appear to be very few places where you can just look at a whole bunch
of the stuff us Brits eat and make up your own mind - it was with this in
mind that I created this gallery. It isn't meant to represent food that is
native to Britain, more simply the sorts of food that we eat. There are
Roast Beef dinners on here, there is Haggis and there is of course a lot
of fish and chips; there is also Pizza and other things. I am not saying
that Pizza is British, just that we eat it here like you do everywhere else
in the world.
This page does have a bias. Although I live in the south, I was born in
the North of England and I have a natural inclination towards northern food.
I don't like 2 peices of green stuff on a plate with low fat mayo, I like
big roasts, I like fish and chips cooked in beef dripping and I like my peas
mushy and grey with lots of Soda in them. I have tried to be relatively
fair and represented some healthy foods but well... I may have failed.
I can cook but I am not a professional chef. Where I have shown pictorial
recipes they are merely how I make things and not how the rest of the
country may do. Of course, my way is better but if you disagree then feel
free to make a sarcastic comment on the pages, that's why I have allowed
commenting after all.
I should add that I don't like ALL of the "food" on these pages. It has
been hard work getting some of these pictures and I have had to eat some
absolute filth just to get pictures of it for these pages. Some of the
"low cost" or kids food represented in this gallery is positively repulsive
and much as I hate to agree with Jamie Oliver, the "Turkey Twizzler" is just
revolting, vile and disgusting in every way that food can be. I tried to feed
it to my cats but they refused to touch it.
Finally... There is no order to this gallery. I add things randomly when I
get a new batch of photos and they go at the end - I doubt I will ever change
their order since I prefer it as sort of a suprise buffet type affair.
Have fun, and if you have enjoyed it please feel free to leave comments
(here or on individual photos) - They are always fun to read. If you want
to give this link to anyone then http://britishfood.uknet.com works best.
